Oslo. The name of NATO Secretary General and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is the fastest running for the Nobel Peace Prize. According to the Nobel rules, the list of names presented to the committee is kept as a secret for at least 50 years. However, those who nominate people for this award include former awardees from any country, parliamentarians, cabinet ministers and some university professors. They are free to disclose those names.

Most of the names that have been publicly disclosed so far are involved in the nearly one-year conflict in Ukraine or are opponents of the Russian president. At the same time, experts have warned that the Norwegian Nobel Committee may announce this year’s prize in October. Lan Marie Berg, a lawmaker from Norway’s Green Party, said on Tuesday that she had named Swedish activist Greta Thunberg. It is believed that she has been in this list for many years but her competition is Vanessa Nakate of Uganda.

Also included is Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was nominated by the Speaker of Pakistan’s upper house of parliament for his tireless efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis. At the same time, Norwegian MP Christian Tybring Gajde indicated on Facebook immediately after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that he would nominate Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky. Apart from this, he has also proposed Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg.

Let us tell you that the other people who have been nominated are anti-Putin in jail. Among them, anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny, who was tried to poison. However, it is unlikely that the Nobel committee will launch another attack on Putin in 2023, at the risk of appearing Eurocentric, said Henrik Urdal, head of the Peace Research Institute of Oslo.
