Bony Fish World Record: How many kilos of fish have you seen so far? Must have seen 5, 10, 25 or 50 kg. But the fish we are going to talk about today broke all the records. This fish has been found on the Azores coast of Portugal. Its weight is 2744 kg. According to scientists, this is the heaviest bone fish ever. The name of this fish is ‘Sunfish’. But alas, this fish has not been found alive.

Let us tell you that fish without bones are heavier than this. Such as the whale shark (Rhincodon typus), which can weigh more than 20 tons. The previous record for the world’s heaviest bone fish was the southern sunfish, found in 1996 in Kamogawa, Japan. Whose weight was 2300 kg and it was 272-centimeter long.

Now the fish report has been received
By the way, this fish was found on the coast of Portugal in December last year. But since then till now scientists were studying this fish. Now its report has come out. Jose Nuno Gomes-Pereira and his colleagues at the Naturalist Association found a large, dead sunfish floating off the coast of Fayal Island. Gomes-Pereira and his team managed to drag the carcass to shore to weigh, measure and sample DNA from the fish.

How did the fish die?
With the help of a crane, 2744 kg of fish was pulled out. Its length was measured to be 325 cm. However, scientists did not say who killed this fish. They found near his head a large semi-cylindrical mark marked with red paint, which is usually seen on the wood on the bottom of boats. However, it is not clear whether this mark occurred before or after the fish died.
