Russian Foreign Minister returned a day before the end of the G-20 conference
Russia has not yet released any statement regarding the return of the foreign minister
Bali: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who arrived as a representative of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G-20 conference, returned from Bali. He left Bali on Wednesday, a day before the scheduled conclusion of the conference amid economic challenges arising out of the Russia-Ukraine war. Hours before Lavrov’s return, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the leaders of the G-20 countries in a virtual way on Tuesday. He repeatedly referred to the ‘G-20’ group as ‘G-19’. Zelensky also called for a just end to the war.
The host country ‘Indonesia’ has confirmed the return of Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov. It is not yet clear whether the Russian Foreign Minister’s move has anything to do with Zelensky’s speech. Reporters are not allowed into working sessions of G-20 member states, but Zelensky’s speech is available on various Ukrainian media websites. There were earlier unconfirmed reports that Lavrov was ill and had gone to a hospital in Bali for a medical check-up ahead of the start of the two-day conference on Tuesday. However, Russia denied these reports.
PM Modi asked to return to the path of diplomacy
Hours before the conclusion of the G-20 summit, there was also speculation that the joint statement would explicitly call Russia the aggressor or simply call for an end to the war. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech on Tuesday called for a return to the path of ‘ceasefire and diplomacy’ to resolve the Ukraine conflict. Let us tell you that Prime Minister Modi had opposed any kind of restriction on energy supply amidst the call of western countries against the purchase of oil and gas from Russia with discounted prices.
Russia did not give any statement on the return of foreign minister
There has been no official statement from Russia about the early return of Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, but this indicates its opposition to criticism over its military action in Ukraine. This can make things easier for the host country Indonesia as well. Earlier there were also reports that the leaders of the western countries were not in favor of standing with Lavrov while photographing the leaders of the G-20 countries.
Zelensky said this in his speech
According to an unofficial excerpt from Zelensky’s speech, he said he wanted to see the “devastating war” end justly on the basis of the Charter of the United Nations and international law. He said that peace has a global value. He also reportedly said that Russia should ensure the territorial integrity of Ukraine within the framework of the relevant UN General Assembly resolution and internationally legally binding document.
These countries are included in G-20
Let us tell you that Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, Britain, America and are the European Union. During India’s chairmanship of the group, it has included Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and United Arab Emirates as guest countries.
