Moscow. During a one-on-one meeting with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Russian President Vladimir Putin got all the delegates and officials to vacate the room. Giving this information to News18, sources told that there was a conversation between Putin and Doval for about 55 minutes.

Ajit Doval met the Russian President on February 9, where both countries agreed to continue working towards implementing the India-Russia strategic partnership.

Statement issued by both the countries
The Indian Embassy in Moscow had tweeted in this regard, ‘NSA Ajit Doval met His Excellency President Putin. During this, extensive discussions were held on bilateral and regional issues. (Both) agreed to continue working towards implementing the India-Russia strategic partnership. While the Kremlin said that President Putin met with heads of delegations participating in multilateral consultations on Afghanistan.

On the other hand, a source told that, ‘It was a face-to-face meeting. Putin wanted all the delegations and officials to leave the room. After this both discussed bilateral issues. He also told, ‘Sharing perception was an important aspect that they discussed… It is important that the Russian President talked to the NSA face to face. It was a 55-minute meeting.

Doval went to Russia to discuss Afghanistan
Doval had reached Moscow on Wednesday to attend the fifth meeting of the Security Council Secretaries/NSA on Afghanistan. Quoting President Putin regarding Afghanistan, the Kremlin said, “We are also concerned that non-regional forces are trying to use the situation in Afghanistan to expand or build their infrastructure.” He said, ‘These countries will do this on the pretext of combating international terrorism, but they are not doing anything that is actually necessary to combat terrorism in reality.’

While addressing the meeting on Wednesday, Doval had clearly said that no country should be allowed to use the land of Afghanistan to spread terrorism and extremism and India will never leave the people of Afghanistan alone in their time of need.

Apart from Russia and India, representatives of Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan took part in this meeting. On the other hand, Doval’s visit to Russia is considered very important, because he has gone to Russia before the meeting of G-20 foreign ministers to be held in Delhi after a few weeks. At the same time, it is being told that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov can come to India to participate in the meeting to be held on March 1 and 2. (with language input)
