Mexico City. Unknown gunmen opened fire on a bar in the central Mexican city of Irapuato on Saturday evening. Local officials said that 6 women and 6 men were killed in this firing. This is the second mass murder in the state of Guanajuato in less than a month. The city administration said in a statement that three people were also injured in the attack in South Irapuato and security officials were trying to trace the attackers.
According to a news agency Reuters news, the motive behind the shooting of 12 people was not immediately clear. Whereas earlier an initial statement by city officials put the death toll at 11. Guanajuato, a major manufacturing hub and production site for many of the world’s largest carmakers, has been bloodied in recent years by brutal battles for supremacy between rival drug gangs.
Bar attack in northern Mexico kills 10
On September 21, gunmen shot and killed 10 people in a barrage in the Guanajuato city of Tarimoro, about 60 miles (96 km) southeast of Irapuato. Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador pledged at the end of 2018 to reduce record levels of mass violence in Mexico. But they have to struggle hard to stop the violence of the gangs engaged in the drug business. However, there has been some reduction in killings in Mexico in 2022. The six-year tenure of López Obrador has seen the most violence in Mexico’s modern history. Whereas he has blamed corruption in previous governments for promoting anarchy.
