Officials said 10 bodies were recovered from the top floor of a building destroyed in the fire. It was told that there was a garage on the ground floor of this building and after the fire broke out in it, the whole building came under its grip and on seeing the fire balloon started rising in the sky and there was screaming all around. Officials said nine Indians and one Bangladeshi were among the dead.

A fire service official said that it took about four hours to put out the fire. Meanwhile, the Indian High Command in Maldives condoled the incident and said that we are deeply saddened by the tragic fire incident in Male, in which many people including Indian citizens have lost their lives.
