Suspicious envelope found from US Embassy in Spain, siege by increasing security

Madrid. A suspicious envelope has been found at the US Embassy in Madrid, Spain. Spanish officials gave this information. When contacted, the US Embassy told The Associated Press: “We can confirm that a suspicious package was received at the US Embassy in Madrid, and is aware of other packages sent to other locations throughout Spain.” Huh.’ The embassy said, ‘We are grateful to the Spanish law enforcement authorities for their assistance in this matter.’
Authorities have cordoned off the embassy located in the Spanish capital, increasing its security. Police say other explosive devices hidden in postal packets were sent over the past two days to Spain’s Defense Ministry, an EU satellite center in Spain and an arms factory. Spain’s interior ministry said police defused the explosives in the envelope found at the US embassy. There is no news of anyone getting injured in this.
Officials said a similar explosive device was sent by regular post to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on 24 November, but was defused by bomb disposal experts. Spanish police detected a ‘letter bomb’ sent to an Air Force base on the outskirts of the capital Madrid in the early hours of Thursday. The Russian Embassy in Madrid said in a tweet after receiving the ‘letter bomb’, ‘Any threat or any terrorist attack targeting diplomatic missions is totally condemnable.’
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba instructed to increase security in all Ukrainian embassies abroad and asked his Spanish counterpart to investigate the incident quickly. Spain’s national court is investigating the incident as an act of terrorism. Security Minister Rafael Perez said a preliminary assessment indicated that the first five packets were sent from within Spain. Police said all but one “letter bomb” were defused.
