Shooting at the police station in Guanajuato, Mexico, many civilians killed in cross firing

2 min read

Mexico City: Gunmen opened fire on a police station in Mexico’s north-central state of Guanajuato on Sunday and police retaliated, killing several people. Celaya City police said several attackers were also killed, but did not give exact numbers. The attack took place in a town on the outskirts of Celaya. Celaya police chief Jesus Rivera said three police officers were wounded in the attackers’ fire, but their injuries were not life-threatening. In none of Mexico’s 32 states, there are as many incidents of violence and murder as in Guanajuato. The state has been witness to years of violent conflict between local gangs supported by the Jalisco Cartel and its arch-rival, the Sinaloa Cartel.

The drug business runs rampant in Guanajuato, so incidents of attacks, murders and shootings continue to emerge from here. Earlier, on November 10, a shooting incident came to light from Guanajuato, in which nine people were killed and two others were injured. Police officials had told that 5 men and four women have died in the firing. Even earlier, the incident of firing had come to light from the Mexican city of Irapuato. Some unknown gunmen opened fire on the common people, in which 12 people died. These included 6 women and 6 men.

Guanajuato, an industrial city in Mexico, is considered a major manufacturing hub and production site for many of the world’s top car makers. But the past few years have been ravaged by turf wars between cartels. Last month, 12 people were killed in a bar in the city of Irapuato. At the same time, 10 people were killed in a firing incident in September. Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador took office in 2018 promising to reduce cartel violence. After this, there is a slight decline in the murders in the year 2022. However, López Obrador’s tenure is on track to be the deadliest in modern history.
