Kyiv. Ukraine can win the war against Russia this year if Western countries increase the supply of weapons, especially long-range missile systems. Mykhaylo Podoliak, advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, made this claim on Wednesday.

“Only missiles with a range of more than 100 kilometers (60 miles) will enable us to accelerate the occupation of our territories,” Podoliak said in an interview with the international news agency AFP. He said that in this case the war would end by autumn.

Shortage of long-range missiles
Ukraine will be able to target Russian weapons depots inside Ukrainian territory controlled by Moscow with these long-range missiles, but there is currently a significant shortage of these missiles in Kyiv’s arsenal.

Last year, the US supplied Ukraine with a long-range missile system, which has a range of about 80 kilometers. This missile system is credited with turning the tide of the war on several fronts in favor of Kyiv.

Kyiv has also recently acquired a similar French system, but it is pressing Washington to deliver the US ATACMS missile, which has a range of up to 300 km.

Podolyak said the missiles would help Ukrainian troops “destroy all Russian military infrastructure in the occupied territories, including the Donbass” in eastern Ukraine and recapture Crimea, annexed by Moscow in 2014.
