Plane crashes during takeoff in Medellin, Colombia, 8 killed in accident

Madeleine. A small plane crashed on Monday in the central Colombian city of Medellin. Eight people aboard the plane died in this accident. According to airport officials, apart from the dead, no one has been reported injured in the accident. Colombian aviation officials said in a statement that the plane crashed after taking off from Olaya Herrera airport.

According to news agency AP, the dead in the accident have been identified as six passengers and two crew members. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known. Medellin Mayor Daniel Quintero said in a statement that the plane reported an engine failure during takeoff and after which the accident occurred. Quintero further said that unfortunately the pilot lost control of the plane and the plane crashed near the runway.

He further said that seven houses were destroyed and six other buildings were damaged in the accident. Quintero said that immediately after the incident, firefighters and other emergency personnel took the lead. The plane, a twin-engine Piper PA-31, was traveling to the western department of Chocó. It may be known that even a month ago, Colombia had suffered a horrific bus accident. 20 people had died in this bus accident. Apart from this, 14 people were injured in the accident.

A similar incident happened in the year 2016. A plane carrying the Brazilian Chapecoense football team crashed. This accident happened when the fuel of the aircraft was exhausted. After running out of fuel, the plane crashed into the mountains near the city. In this accident, 71 people out of 77 people aboard the plane died. In which 16 football players were also involved.
