Kathmandu. Nepal’s President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Sunday appointed Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ as the Prime Minister of the country. Prachanda was a Maoist guerrilla before joining politics. He rebelled for a decade against the Hindu kingdom of Nepal. He is currently the chairman of the CPN-Maoist Centre. In a statement issued by the President’s Office, it has been said that 68-year-old Prachanda has been made the Prime Minister of Nepal under Article 76 Clause-2 of the Constitution.
Under this constitution, the President can appoint that MP to the post of PM among all the MPs who can prove majority with the support of two or more political parties. Prachanda staked his claim on the post of Prime Minister before the deadline given by the President and applied for the candidature. The President had given time till 5 pm on Sunday for this. The swearing-in ceremony of the new Prime Minister in Nepal will take place on Monday at 4 pm.

Born on 11 December 1954 in Dhikurpokhari near Pokhara, Pushp remained underground for nearly 13 years.

He led Nepal’s decade-long armed struggle from 1996 to 2006. Peace agreement was signed in Nepal in the year 2006.

Prachanda has the support of 165 MPs in Nepal’s 275-member parliament. It includes 78 members from CPN-UML, 32 from CPN-MC, 20 from RSP, 14 from RPP, 12 from JSP, 6 from Janmat and 3 from Civil Immunity.
An emergency meeting was held at the house of former Prime Minister Oli. In this meeting everyone agreed to form the government under the leadership of Prachanda.
There is an agreement between Prachanda and Oli regarding the post of PM. Both will hold the post of PM alternately. Oli has agreed to make Prachanda the first PM
Prachanda’s talks with PM Dueba failed. After this Prachanda went to Oli’s own residence and sought his support to become PM.
