According to the local time, this earthquake occurred at 05.02 am. The epicenter was located 142 km north-west of Daruba, North Maluku on the island of Morotai, at a sea depth of 107 km. The agency said that there is no possibility of a tsunami from the earthquake.

A day before this, on February 23, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake occurred in a sparsely populated remote area of ​​Tajikistan near China’s western Xinjiang region. According to the USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake was 67 kilometers (41 mi) west of Murgob in Tajikistan and was centered at a depth of 20 kilometers.

Earthquake death toll in Turkey and Syria rises to 47,000
On the other hand, the death toll due to the tremors of 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey and Syria on February 6 is continuously increasing and till now about 47 thousand people have been confirmed dead. Officials said that the number of casualties could increase as bodies are being recovered from the debris. He told that on February 20 this week, many more buildings that had already been dilapidated collapsed in the 6.4 magnitude earthquake in Turkey’s Hatay province.

About 1,64,000 buildings have either collapsed or are dilapidated due to the earthquake.
Turkey’s Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu said that the death toll from the earthquake that hit the country on February 6 has increased to 43,556. If the number of people killed by the earthquake in Syria is also included, then till now 47,244 people have lost their lives in this disaster. Turkey’s Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum told that about 1,64,000 buildings have either collapsed due to the earthquake or have become so dilapidated that they need to be demolished.
