Kyiv, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov is expected to fall after continuous failure of war strategies by Russia. According to a report by Ukrainian news outlet Ukrainska Pravda, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov will be sacked from his post next week. Ukraine’s President Zelensky (Volodymyr Zelensky) can remove him soon after all the strategies of Reznikov have failed in the battlefield. According to the information, Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s military intelligence agency HUR, will replace Reznikov. However, in an interview given to the news outlet, the Defense Minister denied any information related to the dismissal. He said, ‘I have not talked about my resignation from this post.’

At the same time, a government source confirmed to the Kyiv Independent that Reznikov could be removed from his post very soon. After the dismissal, Reznikov may be appointed to a new position as Minister of Justice. According to the report, the current Justice Minister Denis Maliuska may be appointed as ambassador to a Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Europe. At the moment it is not known who will head Ukraine’s military intelligence agency if Budanov is appointed defense minister.

Corruption is also a big reason
Along with the strengthening of Russia’s position in the war, the corruption exposed on a large scale is also believed to be a major reason for the dismissal of the Defense Minister. In late January, the Defense Ministry was embroiled in a high-profile corruption scandal that led to the sacking of several top officials. The Ukrainian newspaper ZN.UA reported on 21 January that the Ministry of Defense purchased large quantities of food products for the military at inflated prices. Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau has since opened an investigation into the alleged scheme.
