On Wednesday evening, a gunman killed two people and injured another near the Taplaren bar in the city center, according to a report by Reuters news agency. Officials said the suspected attacker himself was found dead on Thursday morning.

After the attacker committed suicide, now the police is trying to find out the reasons for the murder from their level. Police said that they are yet to ascertain the motive behind the shooting. Also, in view of the possibility of hate crime, people have also been asked to be patient.

Posts against LGBT and Jewish communities
Slovak media reported that the prime suspect had posted messages on Twitter with the hashtags ‘hate crime’ and ‘gay bar’. The Denik en news website said the attacker had posted a manifesto against the LGBT and Jewish communities prior to the killings. At the same time, rights organization Duhovi Pride Bratislava (Rainbow Pride) said that it was shocked by the shooting incident, while Slovak President Zuzana Caputova has extended her support to the LGBT community after the attack.

The country’s Prime Minister Eduard Hager has also reacted sharply to this violence on the LGBT community. He said that he strongly condemns the case in which a radicalized teenager has attacked homosexuals. He wrote in the tweet, ‘I strongly condemn the shooting of two youths in Bratislava last night by a radicalized teenager. White supremacy, racism and any form of extremism against communities cannot be tolerated. We will fight against misleading channels spreading hatred and protect minorities.
