Athens. A horrific accident took place in Greece late on Tuesday night. 26 people died and at least 85 were injured in a head-on collision of two trains. The incident took place near Larissa city of Greece. At least two coaches caught fire due to the collision. As soon as the information was received, the rescue team reached the spot. After this, the passengers trapped in the train were evacuated. The passenger train was heading from Athens to the northern city of Thessaloniki.

According to the news agency Reuters, when the passenger train was going towards Thessaloniki late on Tuesday night, then a freight train going from Saloniki to Larissa collided outside the city of Larissa. Speaking to the media, Governor Konstantinos Agorastos said that ‘the collision was very strong’. He further informed that the first four coaches of the passenger train were derailed, while the first two coaches were ‘almost completely destroyed’. Agorastos said that about 250 passengers were safely evacuated and sent on a bus to Thessaloniki.
