Dinosaurs lived between 66 and 75 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous period.

Santiago (Chile). For the first time, the remains of species of dinosaurs have been found in Southern Chile near the border of Argentina. Researchers said on Wednesday that scientists have found the remains of four species of dinosaurs, including Megaraptor, in an inaccessible canyon in Chilean Patagonia. Which have emerged as an important fossil deposit in the last decade.

According to the report, these fossils have been found in Cerro Guido in the Las Chinas Valley of southern Chile near the border of Argentina. Whereas in 2021, he was taken to a laboratory. Researchers say they belong to dinosaurs that had never been previously identified in the area.

Marcelo Leppe, director of the Chilean Antarctic Institute (Inach), who was part of the research team, says that we have become used to finding new fossil remains. This is always very exciting from a scientific point of view. It has neither been discovered nor described before in the Las Chinas Valley. The Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH) has collaborated with the University of Chile and the University of Texas in this expedition.

Leppe says that during this research he had identified the remains. This includes teeth and fragments of postcranial bone. The remains of four species of dinosaurs have been found, including Megaraptor, which belongs to the Theropod family.

According to research, these carnivorous dinosaurs included raptor claws, small teeth for tearing and large upper limbs. They lived at the end of the Cretaceous period i.e. between 66 and 75 million years ago.

Jared Amudeo, a researcher at the University of Chile, told the news agency APF that many facts proved to be very helpful in identifying these remains. The first of these was related to Megatorids. The first reason to identify with great confidence is that the teeth are very curved backwards. This allows us to identify them with certainty.

Amudeo says that two specimens of Unenalaginae, closely related to Velociraptor, have also been identified that have novel evolutionary characters. This character would indicate that it is a new species or perhaps a representative of a different clade.

Apart from this, the remains of dinosaurs have also been found in which the remains of two species of birds have also been found. These include a group of Enantiornithe and Ornithurinae of Mesozoic. The Enantiornithe group where considered the most diverse and abundant group of birds. At the same time, the Ornithurine group of birds has been told to be directly related to the present birds.
