CIA chief meets Putin’s top spy in Turkey, warns about nuclear attack in Ukraine

New Delhi. Amidst the ongoing war in the UK, top intelligence officials of the US and Russia have met in the Turkish capital Ankara. Russian news agency TASS has given this information quoting Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. A White House spokesman also said that Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Burns would warn Russian President Vladimir Putin’s top spy of the consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and the issue of American prisoners in Russian prisons. According to the information received, CIA chief Burns specially came to Ankara to meet Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russia’s foreign intelligence service SVR. It was the first known high-level meeting of US and Russian officials since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24.

According to the news agency Reuters, a White House spokesperson said on the condition of anonymity about this meeting, ‘He is not negotiating any kind of agreement. He is not discussing a solution to the war in Ukraine. He is giving a message about the consequences of Russia’s use of nuclear weapons and the risk to strategic stability.

The spokesman said, ‘We had already informed Ukraine about his visit. We firmly stick to our fundamental principle: nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.’

On the other hand, the White House also told that US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping condemned Russian nuclear threats on Ukraine. Both the leaders also agreed that ‘a nuclear war should never be fought’.
