bangkok: Thailand is immersed in haze due to air pollution since this week. About 200,000 people have become ill from breathing the toxic air. All have been admitted to the hospital. The condition of the capital Bangkok is very bad. City officials have urged people to stay at home. The cause of air pollution is considered to be the smoke coming out of the industry and the yellow-grey smoke coming out of the vehicles. According to an AFP report, air pollution in the capital Bangkok is at an extremely dangerous level.
The Ministry of Health urged children and pregnant women to stay indoors. It is home to an estimated 11 million people and is considered one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Vehicular smoke, industrial emissions and stubble burning have blanketed the country with toxic air. According to the ministry, more than 1.3 million people have fallen ill in the state since the beginning of the year as a result of air pollution. Nearly 200,000 people have been hospitalized this week alone. Kriangkrai Namthaisong, a doctor at the ministry, said on Wednesday that anyone going out should wear a high-quality N95 anti-pollution mask. City officials urged people to work from home.

A spokesman for Bangkok governor Chadchart Sitipunt, who was elected last year on a promise to improve the city’s environment, said he would not hesitate to issue another similar order if the situation worsened. City-run nurseries have installed air purifiers as well as ‘no dust rooms’ for the safety of young children. The Ministry of Public Health said that 50 districts of Bangkok recorded the most dangerous PM2.5 levels on Wednesday. Its level is much above the WHO guideline. In such a situation, the particles present in the air can enter the blood. According to the government’s pollution control department, PM2.5 levels have been above the safe limit in most parts of Bangkok for the past three days. The situation was even worse in the northern city of Chiang Mai. There are more agricultural areas here. Farmers burn straw during the year, due to which the smog has increased further.
